Celebrating 125 years of Crufts
Crufts, the world's largest dog show, returns to the Birmingham NEC this week (Thursday 10 th to Sunday 13 th March). This year is a very special year for the show, it's 125 years old and Almo Nature will be there in Hall 3, Stand 71 to exhibit our revolutionary, new Alternative kibble and help celebrate this momentous occasion. Crufts was the brainchild of travelling dog biscuit salesman Charles Cruft back in 1891. After running several successful dog shows for the Terrier breed, Cruft decided to launch a dog show to cater for all breeds. The first show, initially named ‘Cruft's Dog Show', took place at the Royal Agricultural Hall in Islington in 1891. The apostrophe was dropped in later years to leave the show name that is known across the globe today. The show has come a long way since it was founded in 1891; it was even awarded the title of ‘world's largest dog show' by the Guinness Book of Records in 1991 when a record-breaking 22,973 dogs were entered into the event's showing groups. To celebrate its 125 th birthday, Crufts has produced a delightful video, narrated by show presenter and ex Blue Peter host Peter Purves, looking back at the history of the event. So sit back, relax and enjoy 125 years of Crufts in under five minutes.
